Teon Kennedy and his girlfriend Martine Drouillard have devoted much of the previous year caring for their newborn girl in a New York NICU, so when the time came to propose, Kennedy knew just where he wanted to do it. Kennedy proposed to his now-fiancée at the NewYork-Presbyterian Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns NICU on Feb.
11, with their 10-month-old daughter Morgan watching, according to a news release from the hospital.
“Forever has only recently begun. We have a lovely child “In a statement, Drouillard, 31, stated. “We’ve always planned for the future and a family, but now it’s official.” Last spring, Kennedy, who is also 31, planned to propose to Drouillard at her baby shower. Drouillard was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia, and Morgan would have to be born a very premature newborn, just as the COV-19 outbr-eak began wrecking havoc on their city.
The 1.27-pound baby girl was born at 25th week, and while she had many treatments on her brain and lungs, Kennedy realized he would have to postpone his proposal. According to the statement, she arrived at her current facility in August and has been dubbed “Queen of the NICU.” “She’s come a long way,” said Drouillard. “Morgan is quite popular in this town. She is the source of all the love I’m receiving here. She’s made us stronger as a group and as individuals because of her.”
Kennedy and Drouillard had grown close to the NICU’s personnel as a result of her time there, and when Kennedy ultimately proposed, he knew he wanted them to be included as well. In a statement, he stated, “It’s something that had been on my mind for so long.” “Our daughter has made incredible progress at NewYork-Presbyterian, and I simply never had the proper opportunity to make it happen. And because the personnel here treat us like family, this was the greatest location to do it.”
He enlisted the support of the NICU staff as he began organizing, and they assisted him in purchasing decorations, planning a socially isolated party, and laying out a red carpet complete with flower petals. When Drouillard arrived, Kennedy was waiting for him on one knee, with two different rings for his soon-to-be bride to choose from.
“I’m delighted, excited, astonished, and overwhelmed,” she expressed her feelings. “I’m not sure how to express how I feel.” In a press release, Samantha Lentin, a child life expert at the hospital, said that assisting Kennedy with his proposal “brought tears to everyone’s eyes.” She explained, “It truly signified that we’re a part of their family.”
“We’ve gone through everything with them, and he put his faith in us. We wanted to be able to create these moments with them and make them as memorable as possible.” Morgan’s discharge date has yet to be set since doctors are still trying to strengthen her lungs, but her proud parents have announced they would postpone their wedding until she is able to attend the event, according to Good Morning America.
